Yes masonry screws need a correctly sized pilot hole drilled into the concrete brick or stone first. Once the hole is drilled the screw cuts its own thread directly into the masonry giving a strong fixing without a plug. Our mixed trays even include a matching masonry drill bit.
Do I need plugs for masonry screws?
No that is the main advantage. Masonry Screws and concrete screws thread directly into the drilled hole without nylon plugs which saves time and gives a neater result. Traditional woodscrew and plug sets remain available for jobs where you prefer that approach.
What is the difference between concrete screws and masonry screws?
They work the same way but concrete screws are generally larger with a TX30 drive and lengths up to 200mm for through fixing timber and framework to solid substrates. Masonry screws are lighter duty with a TX25 drive suited to ironmongery brackets and electrical supports.
